Young people have got their foot on the career ladder with YouTube, Disney and Google through working with their local Jobcentre Plus (JCP) adviser, Minister for Employment Esther McVey announced today (4 February 2014).
Jobcentre Plus advisers work closely with bosses across the country to make sure young people have the skills and work experience they need to get the job they want – and have started work in places such as the National Portrait Gallery, Google and YouTube.
Employment Minister Esther McVey will be raising the profile of the unique range of jobs available through working with JCP at the launch of the next phase of the government’s flagship New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) with celebrity Enterprise Ambassador Levi Roots at the JCP ‘Office of the Future’ in London Bridge today.

Many people might be surprised at just how many jobs from emerging and creative industries there are that young people can get into through working with their local Jobcentre Plus advisor.
Working together with business to create jobs and support young people get into work are central to the government’s long-term economic plan to build a stronger, more competitive economy.
The NEA offers expert mentoring and financial support to jobseekers who want to start up their own business, helping people who have previously been on benefits turn their business ideas into successful enterprises.
So far, enterprising jobseekers have set up 32,520 new businesses thanks to the scheme, ranging from new internet start-ups to a luxury dog treat company to a new florist business.
Careers in the creative industries that young people have started through working with their JCP adviser include:
Graphic Designer – Astute Graphics is a software company ideal for digital artists. This job entails working on exciting projects for Pixar and Disney, Apple, Panasonic, MTV and many more. This job also offers the opportunity for international travel.
Currant Web Designer – Currant Web is a UK based company that offers professional website development. Currant offers the opportunity to work alongside a diverse range of clients that include major businesses as well as budding internet enthusiasts.
Filmmaker for Google / YouTube – Signature Pictures Production Company. Signature Pictures is a multimedia production company which create and produce films, music, and any other kind of media relating to the arts.
